9 amazing new baby and kid products I SAW AT ABC kids EXPO 2015

Karen — who has written various messages here and who has her own site Off the Meathook — and I spent the past two days walking the huge floor of the annual ABC kids Expo, where folks in the baby industry show off their products to potential buyers and media.

Karen even spent some time laying on the floor, enticed by a lesson on how to give herself a prenatal massage with a small rubber ball. (That was at the Pariday booth; they make postpartum recovery products that are certainly worth knowing about.)

We saw zillions of strollers, bedding sets, bibs, and tiny lounge chairs, and these are ten of the items that I’d many consider purchasing myself.

Storage bins by fluf.ca. I liked these because they are trendy patterns and sized just best to go into that basic IKEA cube shelf system.

Some of the Fluf collection is stiff fabric bins that you can toss a bunch of train tracks in and drag around, but a bunch of the 2016 stuff is made out of Tyvek, which is the lightweight indestructible material used on construction projects. That implies it won’t rip, even if covered in slobber.

Fold-up, portable cot bunk beds by Kid-O-Bunk. I think a picture is worth a thousand words in this case. So I’ll just leave this here.

Infinite privacy for breastfeeding. We looked through a lot of infinity nursing scarves. This concept, a highly wearable privacy shield for breastfeeding, is a much better service than it’s ancestor, the Hooter Hider.

Many producers are using fabrics that aren’t soft enough, or using dated prints that you wouldn’t actually want to wear as a scarf. We liked the jersey versions from Bebe au Lait, and when we asked them why the scarves are single-layered (ie, there is a wrong side that reveals seams and has no print), the brand representative explained that a double-layered scarf becomes so thick that it’s a concern to wear. Well done, Bebe Au Lait.

Speed jogging stroller from Bumbleride. This stroller is for major running, and it will be available in 2016. I loved everything Bumbleride showed me from how easily the tires popped off, how it folded and stood up on it’s own, and the modes that the wheels can be set in for efficient running or steering.
Shopping for a stroller is overwhelming, and I’m not your expert, but this demo won me over. and so did the olive green color. You’ll find this particular stroller in local independent baby stores where it’s worthwhile to get assistance from actual employees, not just online reviews. shop small, y’all!

Chalkboard for monthly baby photos by Pearhead. It’s alright if your chalk art skills are not Pinterest-worthy because this reasonably priced design template will do the trick.

Bassinest from HALO. This thing is so flexible that you can swivel baby closer and even more while you are half asleep.

Plus when you get up, swivel it so that you can get out of bed without scootching down. It’s got a flexible side so you can push it down when you want to touch baby, and a bunch of other (soothing) bells and (quiet) whistles. A smart service for close-sleeping rather than co-sleeping. Wait, is Karen laying down again?

Carrycot stroller by Greentom Upp. This white (!) stroller is revolutionary in it’s eco-friendliness. The frame is made from post-consumer recycled plastic, as is the fabric.

I think Karen, who will be pushing a baby around in a few months would turn a lot of heads in San Francisco with this distinct stroller. She ought to get one, right?

This frame can convert to the older baby and toddler models, too.

Cute-as-heck newborn clothing by skip*hop. All the layette items were really adorable, but we were especially charmed by the black and white stuff.

Doona convertible stroller-to-carseat from Simple Parenting. What!? My mind was blown by this stroller that folds its wheels into itself to become carseat. Yes, it’s a heavy carseat (15.5 lbs). but it goes up to 35 lbs/32 inches so you can use it for a long time. I made this video of the sales dude to illustrate how it works. press play:

My kids went trick or Treating for Halloween last Saturday. In the united states kids dress up in costumes on October 31 and visit neighbor’s who pass out treats.  After knocking on the door or ringing the door bell, kids say, “Trick or treat!,” and they get something sweet like candy, or a small item like a pencil. Some people also pass out money.

It rained on Halloween this year, but that didn’t stop my kids from dressing up to go out trick or treating. Did your kids dress up for Halloween? Did they go trick or treating?

BABY FAT book evaluation

We, Rookie Moms, tread lightly in the area of diet plan as well as exercise. We believe a new mom has sufficient adjustments as well as to-dos without likewise fretting about losing that last ten pounds.

That said, our routine visitors may likewise understand that when Milo turned two as well as people were still asking me when the infant was due, I inspired to get serious about weight loss.

The infant Fat diet plan did not make me lose the last ten pounds; however, I would not hesitate to suggest it to my new mom friends, sisters, or sisters-in-law who may be having a hard time to in shape healthy eating habits into a chaotic life with a newborn.

The infant Fat diet plan (a hectic mom’s guide to losing weight as well as looking fabulous) is a handy book for parents trying to get a handle on like handles. The authors, both new moms as well as dietitians, speak in ordinary language as well as do not promise instant results by eating only grapefruit or cookies (I really did get a pitch for the all-cookie diet!).

Their tips are totally in-line with what I already believe as well as they comprehend the difficulties of parenting little children. For example they totally *get* it that when your infant doesn’t surface what’s on his plate, mom commonly does. One rookie mom told me today that she even eats what her son throws on the floor. Yikes.

Most practical stuff for me:

A excellent meal plan with motivation for snacks as well as quickie dinners

Lots of practical tips for eating out (skip the significant ooey gooey wonderful dessert as well as opt for deep dark chocolate in smaller portions)

Confirmation for some typical sense rules we already comply with at house as well as a huge high-five for avoiding McDonald’s (so far)

Really great concepts for amping up the fun as well as calorie-burning within your on a regular basis arranged day

What didn’t I like?
Well, I don’t like having to offer with weight problems or believe about diets at all. Period.

Once I get over myself as well as admit that I can utilize this guidance as well as help… I discovered the visual style as well as tone a bit cutesie. It’s kinda not my style.

Bottom line
The advice is truly noise as well as based on typical sense. If you are having a hard time with healthy eating after having a baby, this is a great book for you.

START A business WITH YOUR baby

Shawn Hazen is a Chicago-based designer whom I’ve never met, but I have been emailing with his partner Lisa ever since she became a rookie mom. When she told me last month that her spouse and their rookie baby Finn, now three, started a t-shirt company, I developed a crush on him. I think this creative family business is totally awesome, and I would like my spouse to start a rock band with Julian, stat.

Three-year old Finn Hazen loves robots, and came up with the name for the company, Robotcha. He also comes up with many of the ideas for new robot designs. “That explains why many of them involve ice cream,” Shawn says.

They sent us two t shirts to show off their new stuff. Julian got to keep one and gave one to Holden for his birthday. here Julian is, ready to go to Holden’s party, gift in hand.

“Doesn’t it ruin the gift, if Julian is wearing the shirt already?” my spouse asked. “Holden is turning four,” I said. “I doubt he’ll notice what Julian is wearing, and if he does admire it, all the better when he opens his gift.”

Julian loves his Robotcha shirt because it’s glittery and it sparkles, and he is a glittery type of guy. I caught him admiring his tshirt’s reflection in the side of the automobile the other day. He was transfixed. I wish I could have videotaped it for the Hazens.

If you have a preschooler in your house, know that you have a fountain of creativity just waiting to be exploited. Make some money off your kid’s fresh ideas before they get watered down by reality.

To see Finn and Shawn’s entire collection, including some girl-friendly designs, check out Robotcha-Co.com.

WHAT I keep discovering FROM as well little TO stop working

Over the past few months I dealt with Go Mighty as part of the Too little to Fail initiative. together with a whole lot of wise people, we’re working to close The Word Gap that impacts far as well many young kids by taking bit steps that have a huge impact.

So what did I do to assist close the Word space in my house?

A few months ago, I composed about my intention to join the #gomighty4kids difficulty as well as attempt six personal goals on the path toward reading, talking, as well as singing more with my children.

Though the resulting cooking job was inedible as well as my kids didn’t ended up being the immediate Beatles fans I had really hoped for, we had a extremely great time together. as well as we talked. A lot.

And that is the magic: just by speaking to your children, you are assisting develop their brains as well as vocabularies.

I documented my efforts on the gomighty.com site:

Telling stories about the grandfather they’ve never satisfied (my favorite)

A young child date to Habitot, my regional children’s museum

Reading to my cross-country nephew via a youtube video you can show your own kids

The magic of a Christmas book with accompanying train ride

Experiments in baking pie from scratch

Singing a Beatles tune together, phase 1

What did some other incredible people do?

Several other people joined in the goal-setting as well as right here are few of my favorites:

Heather Spohr contacted publishing homes to donate books for infants in the NICU.

Stacey Ferguson set up a cozy reading nook to further her children’s interest.

Maggie Mason resolved to up her parenting game in 2014 with simple actions.

Morgan Shanahan did a cooking job with her four year-old as well as plans to do it weekly.

These are all doable when you prioritize as well as make the time, right? To discover more more more concepts as well as inspiration, see the #gomighty4kids tag over on gomighty.com or browse for it on twitter.

And what can all of us keep doing?

Throw down your great intentions as well as make a plan to talk more with your children. With a little baby, it is so simple to narrate your day or checked out a book together. already tired by Goodnight Moon? right here are some tips to get more out of the experience. just do it.

For hectic young children as well as preschoolers, the library is a almost endless source of new material. discover about building houses, elegant dresses, or sharks, searching for new material as your child’s interests change. look of what is happening on each page as well as anticipate what may occur next. Sawyer is constantly impressing me with his powers of observation. He will notice that the bicycle bell or teddy bear was on the previous page however disappeared. I like it.

My involvement in the program is part of the Too little to Fail initiative, sponsored by Next Generation and the Clinton Foundation, who are working to close the Word Gap, as well as Go Mighty is on board. More information here. I was super proud to participate.

BENEFITS OF A DIAPER service (WHY & WHY NOT TO use ONE)

Diaper service might sound like a foreign concept to you, but once you learn about it you might just be thinking it’s something that’s best up your alley. before you click off thinking this doesn’t fit your needs, I’ll start off by saying it’s for both cloth and disposable diaper users. Obviously, the services will differ greatly between the two but both are implied to make your life a whole lot easier. I’ll discuss to you all the benefits of using a diaper service, but we’ll start out with the basics like what the heck “diaper service” actually means.

Benefits of a Diaper service (Why & Why Not to use one)

What’s a Diaper Service?

The basic idea of a diaper service is that for a weekly/monthly fee someone will come to take care of all your cleaning and laundering that has to finish with diapers. It’s a good little weight lifted off your shoulders for sure! If you plan on using cloth diapers, they will come to pick the soiled ones up and drop off new clean ones. The benefit of using the service over washing yourself are the incredibly strict guidelines they follow when cleaning.

Another amazing thing about diaper services? numerous of them make it possible for you to use disposable diapers while still being eco-friendly. I know, it seems like this is an impossible combination but check this out. They will drop off specially made compostable diapers and come to pick them back up to make sure they are correctly disposed of. And, don’t worry the diaper service ought to offer you with some sort of airtight container so those dirty diapers won’t stink up your home before the next pick up.

Facts about Diaper usage

Diapers contribute greatly to our landfill problem in the us and around the world. I am certainly not putting blame on anybody here, it’s hard enough parenting a baby and numerous of us just don’t have the time to worry about where our diapers are ending up. A diaper service will make it all easy though and is well worth the small cost to have some peace of mind about how you’re treating mother Earth. Here’s some facts that might just make you consider going the cloth or compostable route.

Around 7 billion pounds of us garbage each year is from disposable diapers ()

Disposable diapers can take over 100 years to decompose. So, yes, they’ll be sitting in the landfill much longer than you’ll be alive

Many disposable diapers include chemicals that may be harmful to your baby (that’s how they stay so absorbent)

Babies in cloth diapers tend to be potty trained faster, because they don’t have the comfort of extra absorbent diapers

Disposable diapers will cost you around $1,500 a year, making the diaper service costs not seem so bad after all

Benefits of using a Diaper service

Convenience is #1 when parenting, think of all the last minute grocery trips you won’t need to take

At $15-25 a week, the extra cost will save you tons of time.

Using cloth diapers all of a sudden seems doable

Your cloth diapers will be rinsed, washed, and dried for you

Diaper services usually use environmentally friendly methods when laundering; little water and energy usage

Tons of waste is kept out of landfills

Many services will offer the option of a compostable environmentally friendly one use diaper

If using compostable diapers, you will save money by subscribing to use the same brand of diapers.

You can change sizes whenever your little one grows. This eliminating the chance of having tons of leftovers in a certain diaper size

GET YOUR young child cleaning UP PRONTO

I desire this photo of the OXO tot mini dustpan as well as hand broom showed a young child or banana for scale instead of a full-grown mom looking for a youngster helper to clean up around the highchair. however I am glad they cut her deal with off since you understand she’s ill of crawling around down there. Or stepping on doubtful bits of detritus as she moves UP as well as DOWN from her seat refilling as well as answering special requests during every meal.

So, here’s the tip: get your bit one to begin assisting around the home while he still believes it is an amazing screen of huge youngster power as well as before he starts to resent your intrusion onto his well-deserved free time.

Stock up on adorable kid-sized cleaning supplies or hack the ones you have as well as let him go to town!

1. Kid-sized hand broom. this by OXO is cute, mod, as well as does the task for about $5.

2. Hacked Swiffer. Take out the middle segment(s) of your swiffer to make it child-sized. Don’t lose them. A Swiffer Sweeper is about $23 to get started. You can buy a gajillion fabric refills for about $10.

See Audrey’s sons take young child sweeping to the next level with Swiffer Hockey. as well as you understand your bit one wishes to be like the huge kids, so you may requirement to show this video for next level cooperation.

3. dust Busting. when my young child got over the noise of the dust buster, he liked the feeling of power of cleaning up ALL the playground sand from his shoes. I won’t state that he fills his shoes on function to make a mess as well as clean it up, however I likewise wouldn’t put it past him.

This cordless Dustbuster with a charging dock is the one we bought; is the very popular one from Black & Decker as well as costs about $50. I’d state its been worth it for us.

When my eldest son turned two, all he desired was a kid-sized broom, shovel, as well as rake. I only desire we had thrown a mini vacuum into the mix instead of waiting a few more years! Carpe Diem.

What are your finest tips to get young children to clean up as well as pitch in?

COUNT THE DAYS WITH A PAPER CHAIN

We have been doing a simple advent calendar with Julian, each numbered door exposing a piece of chocolate after dinner. The enjoyment is building as the doors are ripped off as well as Santa’s Hannukah Harry’s arrival grows closer. He has been tuned in to which day of the week it is for a while now, however hearing him say, “is it the 9th?” truly amuses me.

Another method to countdown days – one that might be used to any type of event your household is anticipating – is with a paper chain. utilize seasonal wrapping paper or magazine pages. cut strips, loop them into circles, as well as tape or staple. I’m hoping you don’t requirement more of a tutorial than that.

I suggest this today, since it is perhaps a bit late to get an advent calendar as well as have to gobble up 10 pieces of chocolate for everyday in December you’ve missed (although I did see them at Target for $0.99 as well as the pieces of chocolate are truly small…) With a paper chain, you might count days up until Hannukah, up until Uncle Jake arrives, up until huge boy underclothing have been earned, up until the driver’s permit has been granted, etc.

Gift idea: want to delegate administration of this task to Grandma? buy a set from huge Day Chains.

Designer Kristin Adams Litke makes them for wedding event day countdowns, birthday countdowns, as well as infant arrival countdowns. anyone on your listing with a organized c-section in their future? think about the infant version.
