BUCKET list UPDATE: 45 DAYS TO GO

I’m going to fail this challenge. and fail it hard. If I couldn’t/wouldn’t/didn’t do these tasks in the past (1,001) – (45) days, I’m sure as heck not going to complete them now.

Oh yes, I’m amazing and I can start a blog and publish a book, but I guess I can’t just do everything I set my mind to, huh?

First, I’m going to see if I unintentionally on purpose did any much more of the things on my list. next I’m gonna flat out give up on some (can I cross those out? probably not). Finally, I’ll try to squeeze one tiny bucket item in per day week (c’mon, I work full-time, have two kids, and write this site!)

Ok here, goes:

Personal
These are the ones that are left:
4. read 15 books just for fun (or book club but not parenting!) – I’ll have to give it some thought. I will also have to decide if audio books count. Thinking… hmm, yes, they count.
5. trip a factory – shouldn’t be so hard; there’s a sake factory within a couple miles of here; I wonder if they give tours.
7. schedule a mole patrol – I really ought to do this one.

Romantic
Not too bad.
13. have a weekend (two nights!) away with Alec – check! I forgot to mark it off, maybe because it wasn’t so romantic. but it happened and there was even an airplane involved.
14. wear a wig and surprise Alec out – check! I forgot to mark this one because, somehow, wearing a garish blond wig wasn’t as sexy in real life as it was in my head. Romantic? Oh, hell no!
16. go to a drive-in film – I’d go if I could find one.
17. go to a play – check! We saw, and loved, American Idiot.
18. Start/finish art project with Alec – unlikely, leave it on.
19. Take dance lessons with Alec – kinda sorta done. While I thought of us experiencing the joys of tango or flamenco, we had a swing lesson at Ashkenaz. I’ll take it.

So, if a drive-in film presents itself, I’ll certainly go. Otherwise, I’m ignoring this category.

Family fun
And now I’m starting to think I suck.
21. Take young boys to the circus – nope. didn’t do it. not gonna do it.
22. build a snowman – highly unlikely. they did see snow and make snowBALLS
23. ride a roller coaster – nope.
24. Go camping – (yes, yes we did! summer 2008 see photo above for proof)
25. find some local caves to explore – I don’t think so.
27. get a canine – also, not gonna do it.
28. create a new 101 list with the family – terrific idea – keep this one!

Let’s see. We’re going on a getaway soon and I’ll let them help me make the next list. That’ll have to be good enough.

Friends
Starting to feel like a sucky friend.
29. throw a kick-ass birthday party for self. Not exactly. ?
30. keep in touch better with my childfree girlfriends. Debatable.
31. have a weekend away with pals each year. Yes! Yes! Go me!

If I can manage to plan a kick-ass birthday before this ends, I will be thrilled. My actual birthday is not until after my challenge ends.

Sports
These are not going to be impressive. too bad I didn’t commit to training for a relay race with twelve virtual strangers friends.

Ugh. So, I need to completely re-evaluate this part of the list for stuff I felt like I ought to do and stuff I really wanted to do. Because, come on, if any of this was really essential or interesting, it would be done.

Travel
I might start crying now.
41. Leave the country once a year starting in 2008 – nope.
42. Take a road trip getaway with another family – not even.
43. Take the family to Europe – yes! We’re going to Denmark in March the day this challenge ends!
44. Visit Cuba – ha ha, not even close.
45. Ride a train up (or down) the California coast – no, sorry Holden.
46. Do a one month family sabbatical abroad – not gonna happen.

We’re going to keep up with our agreement to leave the country once a year, but we might need to accept a little flexibility. In a pinch, we can amortize our honeymoon. (Yes, #geeky I am)

Compact
So while I’ve been so busy not traveling and not working out, I guess I’ve been composting?!
49. Sell the crap in our shed – yes, mostly! I just need to purge some windows and doors and I’ll feel really good.
51. Try some audio books to see what I think – totally! Audio books = good. easy reading with automobile commute. Yes, please.
52. Use the library instead of purchasing all books – Amen. We’ve completely cut down purchasing books (except, you really ought to still purchase my book) and check out the library regularly.

Food and Drink

Like with my crafty goals (below), if I can get some pals to pitch in, I might cross a few much more off my list. Karen and Marnie, my eyes are on you!

64. Research Watergate enough to discuss it – between me and wikipedia, we ought to be able to do this. This got on the list based on a random conversation/debate with my spouse that I have long because stopped caring about. Hell, we even saw Frost/Nixon together last year.

Where else do you find knitting, Nixon, and Homer Simpson on the same list? At least I’m eclectic.

Crafty
These are not going to happen unless some fantastic and crafty pal comes over with a basket, some ribbons, yarn, and a little craft glue. What do you say, girls? Is it a party?

The Obama administration and the uber-left is destroying the once terrific culture of the united states based on traditional judeo-Christian values, by imposing their belief that nobody should be discriminated.  The Obama administration decided that schools who don’t allow transgendered girls with complete boy body parts into the girls’ locker room will lose federal Title IX funding.  The truth is that we are all born either one gender or the other. males have Y chromosomes and will always be males, no matter how many surgeries they undergo.  The federal government is forcing schools to allow boys into the girls locker room.  As a mother of a 9-year-old girl, this makes me absolutely sick.

When my daughter gets old enough to have to change clothes in a locker room for gym class, you bet I will check and see if her school is letting boys into the locker room.  If that is the case, I will do something to prevent her from having to change clothes in front of someone who was created and born with male body parts.  The progressive liberals are tearing apart the Christian values that once made our country terrific and we must stand up against this, before Satan himself controls our nation.

I am honored to feature another article from the terrific Jane M. Orient, M.D., executive director of association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS).  With her proficiency she details what the Obama administration is doing to our culture and the physical and spiritual health of our children through this outrageous ruling.

The Locker room controversy and the threat to Your Child’s Health

An Obama administration ruling that a school must allow a transgender “girl” with male parts full access to the girls’ locker room, or lose federal Title IX funding, sparked a revealing exchange between Megyn Kelly and school superintendent Daniel Cates on Fox News.

Kelly tried to entrap an uncomfortable official, who seemed to be reciting a memorized script in an effort to escape the wrath of parents, bureaucrats, and lawyers on both sides. Their discussion about “balancing rights” to “privacy” and “nondiscrimination” ignored serious health issues. though both profess concern for the vulnerable transgender child, they seem blind to the fact that he (“she”) is being used as a pawn in a political/cultural war. They imply that parents’ objections are solely about their girls’ seeing body parts different from theirs.

Both are accepting seriously flawed assumptions.

First, both Kelly and Cates seem to believe the ACLU’s assertion that a transgender (in this case male-to-female) person truly is a female “through and through”—and “as a matter of science.” Cates says that the district “respects and honors” transgender students. Both Cates and Kelly refer to the student as a “girl” and use feminine pronouns.

In fact, the science cannot be clearer. There are two sexes. Leaving aside rare conditions such as congenital adrenal hyperplasia, this is absolutely plain at birth, and not a matter of arbitrary “assignment.” A person with a Y chromosome is through-and-through male in every cell in his body. If Caitlyn Jenner’s skeleton is dug up a few hundred years from now, it will unequivocally be identified as male.

Second, they both assume that it is possible to convert a male into a female, and that doctors are helping a patient affirm his true identity by so doing.

In fact, it is possible for a male to become a eunuch or female impersonator, but he will never beable to be somebody’s natural mother. and what do we do to a boy to try to make him appear female? Do we have any information about the long-term effects of female hormones starting in childhood? maybe we will eventually, if we follow today’s experimental subjects—who are too young to consent and are likely not having the possible consequences spelled out. If castrated, they will lose forever the prospect of having natural offspring. and what will genital surgery do to urinary continence? how will hormones affect their risk of breast cancer? What about blood clots and strokes? and osteoporosis and fractures as they age? If adult athletes are forbidden to “dope” with steroids, why is it acceptable for children?

And what will happen to strength and lung capacity? men have 40 percent greater body strength and 25 percent greater lung capacity. I doubt that transgender males will lose enough strength to completely cancel their advantage over girls. My 9-year-old nephew, still quite small, could easily handle a full-sized wheelbarrow filled with cement. but how much of their potential will they sacrifice? and what is the risk of injury to girls playing with them on the athletic field?

In psychiatry, it is generally taught that the doctor should not affirm a patient’s delusions. Eventually, the transgender child will have to confront reality as an adult. He may well change his “self identification,” but his chance to fully develop as a man may be irrevocably taken from him.

There are excellent reasons not to have boys and girls undressing in front of each other, and a transgender “girl” is just a wedge. The real agenda is to further the sexual and cultural revolution: to undermine the family, to stigmatize the Christian faith and indeed all traditional morality, and to break down all resistance to a totalitarian state that dictates belief and behavior.

Cates and Kelly are effectively on the same side, although Kelly is an aggressor and Cates a seemingly impotent substitute for real opposition. Public schools will neither fully protect your daughter as federal policy enables sexual predators in the locker room, nor shield your sons and daughters from a morally corrupt environment, nor allow you to defend them from dangerous medicine.

If your school district will sacrifice your sons and daughters to comply with the agenda of the Obama Administration, run for the nearest exit. Their physical, psychological, and spiritual health is at risk in a radical social experiment.
